The concierge at the hotel we were staying at said that reservations for Cordillera could only be made more than 24 hours in advance and that non-members could play after 1:30PM. BUT, if we went there and they werent that busy (its their slow season) they have been known to let non-members out earlier. We decided to drive up to the course to gauge the driving time and arrived at the Valley Course after an hours drive. We went into the club house and the manager on duty was very informative and reiterated the 1:30PM start times and the practice of letting non-member out earlier if time permitted. He then directed us to the Mountain Courses.
We drove another 20 minutes to the Mountain Course club house. When we arrived (at 11:30AM) there were no more than 10 cars in the parking lot and we saw no one on the 4 holes we could see. We went to the pro shop and was approached by the person on duty. I asked if there were tee times available for non-members the following day. She looked at the schedule and told us No problem this time of year. I then asked if it was then possible to start earlier than 1:30PM because with a cost of $225.00 a round, I didnt want to fight the sunset or the afternoon winds if possible. She looked at the schedule again and smiled but said that she would have to get approval from the Pro on duty.
The Pro came over to us and said that we could not start earlier AND that the earliest non-members were allowed to start was 2:30PM. I mentioned what the hotel concierge, the other golf shop manager and his own person stated but he insisted we were not allowed. I also mentioned that their courses were not that busy and asked if he could make an exception since we were going to drive another hour and 20 minutes again the next day to play his course. He was emphatic and brusque with his same answer. You can substitute snooty and boorish for emphatic and brusque if you want, same difference!
Apparently he didnt want non-members on his course regardless of what everyone else stated. Everyone else at the resort was polite, personable and helpful. The Pro was the only jerk on duty.
