My foursome was turned away from another area golf course because they forgot they had a tournament scheduled that morning when they took my tee time reservation. Understandable, but a phone call would have been nice before driving all the way out there. Needless to say, when we finally were able to track down a golf course that could fit us in at the last minute, we were not in the best of moods. The fact that they were available at the last minute should have tipped us off. This course is poorly maintained throughout. Not that there was much to maintain. There are no tee boxes, just some wooden blocks in the grass. And it certainly wasn't any form of shortly manicured bent grass. It appeared that there may have been sand at some point, but it is mostly gone leaving only sparse bunkers around the greens with very deep grass in them. On one hole, we nearly got lost. We could not decifer which way the fairway went from the tee. We concluded that it must be straight, but in fact, it was a 90 degree dog leg left about 120 yards out. Needless to say, we overshot the corner. I've been on courses with loosely defined fairways, but this place was ridiculous. My lawn makes for a better hitting surface. And I live in Manhattan...get the picture? The price was the killer. $42 to play at this dump. $12 if I managed to live in the county. But hey...I was golfing. Right? |
