Comments:
This beautiful new course is nestled at the base of the Shennandoah Mountains where they meet the River by the same name. It is not long, but you need all your clubs to be successful and is a real challenge. The rough that lines the fairways is deep and you need to keep the ball in the short grass to score well. There are four holes on the back nine cut right into the mountain side with some spectacular views. The par 3 15th is the course's signature hole with at least a 100 ft drop from tee to green. The history behind the course is interesting as well with the Civil War battle at Cool Springs taking place on the very ground the course was built upon. There is a old stone home that housed soldiers during the war still on the property. Located about 40 miles west from the Washington DC Beltway, this course is worth the drive. Don't expect perfect conditions quite yet as the course is still new and will need time to mature. But if you are looking for a challenge and some fun, Virginia National is a great course to play.
